Born (with the full name) Ayodeji Balogun Ibrahim; Wizkid emerged into a Yoruba family. His birth came about in 1990 in his native country –Nigeria. He grew up in Surulere –his actual place of birth in Lagos State.

Wizkid’s family combines the two major religions in Nigeria and in this regard, his mother is known as a Christian while his father practices Islam. Besides his family background which combines Islam and Christianity, Wizkid’s father is a polygamist believed to have given birth to many children. Of all these children, Wizkid happens to be his father’s only male child.

Wizkid’s passion for music began at a very tender age when he got addicted listening to the songs recorded by reputable Nigerian musicians like King Sunny Ade (a notable juju musician) and late Fela Anikulapo Kuti (a Nigerian Afro legend). Before Wizkid came to limelight, he was attributed to the stage name “Lil Prinz’’. However, the talented Hip-Hop artiste decided to change his stage name and consequently goes by the stage name “Wizkid’’ (which he has been bearing since 2006).

Though Wizkid is now a wealthy and distinguished pop star across and beyond Nigeria, the renowned musician encountered some hard moments during which his parents’ decisions nearly frustrated his music career. In an interview concerning this, the pop star recalled past events about how his two parents failed to appreciate his potential of emerging as a star musician. Wizkid grew with great aspirations of becoming a musician. In view of his intense passion towards his music career, he favoured it above his academic career. And since he thought it right that he should further deepen his efforts into music, he eventually chose to terminate his education at Lagos State University in 2009.

Having withdrawn himself from the university, he proceeded with his music career and soon, he began making waves as a musician. But at a later time, Wizkid thought it right that he should give his academic course a second try. Consequently, he became a student of Lead City University. However, Wizkid hardly finished this academic programme before dropping out of his academic course for the second time. Prior to the decision to terminate his academic programme at Leeds City University, he had completed only two sessions.

Before emerging into fame, Wizkid recorded his songs while he was growing up in Ojuelegba, Lagos State. At this time, he endured a lot of hardship as he had to exert himself around the streets. In this regard, he received some encouragement in 2015 and this prompted him to release a video clip of “Ojuelegba’’ –his tributary song to the difficult moments he encountered while growing up in Ojuelegba.

Like many other Hip-Hop artists, the massive portion of Wizkid’s wealth comes from record sales, domestic & international shows together with his endorsement deals. Based on his endorsement deals, Wizkid was signed by Pepsi. The deal, signed in 2012, meant he was paid $350,000 to be the face of Pepsi for a one-year period.
